Privacy Notice
Last updated: 10 September 2026
1. Who is responsible for your information
This website is run by Michael Parker, a writer based in West Sussex, United Kingdom. For UK data protection law, Michael Parker is the controller of personal information collected through this site.
Email: info@michaelparkerbooks.com
Website: www.michaelparkerbooks.com
If you want to complain about how your information is used, email the address above and write “Privacy complaint” in the subject line. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (see section 11).
2. What this notice covers
This notice explains what personal information is collected on this website, why it is used, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and what rights you have.
It covers:
- visiting the site
- emailing the contact address
- using “Buy” links that take you to Amazon or another retailer
Book purchases are completed on the retailer’s own site. Amazon and other shops have their own privacy notices.
3. Information collected
Information you give
- the content of any message you send to info@michaelparkerbooks.com
Information collected automatically
- standard server logs from the host (Vercel), which can include IP address, browser type, pages requested and the time of the request
- technical data needed to deliver fonts, icons and retailer previews from third parties named below
This site does not currently run its own advertising pixels or Google Analytics. If that changes, this notice will be updated first.
4. Why information is used
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Reply to a message you send | Legitimate interests — responding to someone who has made contact |
| Keep the site secure and working | Legitimate interests — running and protecting the website |
| Understand basic, first-party reading statistics if they are added later | Legitimate interests, with a simple way to object, where the PECR exemption for first-party analytics applies; otherwise consent |
5. Reader list
This website does not currently collect email addresses for a newsletter or reader list. There is no signup form on the site.
If a list is added later, this notice will be updated first. It will name the provider, the lawful basis (consent), and how to unsubscribe.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
UK cookie rules sit in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Consent is still required before non-essential third-party tracking or advertising technologies are set.
This site itself does not set first-party advertising cookies. It does load third-party resources that may store or access information on your device:
- Google Fonts — to display the typefaces
- cdnjs / Cloudflare — to load icon fonts
- Amazon — if a book preview or “Buy” widget is shown, or when you follow a buy link
- Vercel — hosting and security
Those companies act on their own terms when you use their services. Where a widget is not essential to read the page, it should stay unloaded until you accept it. If a consent banner is added, this section will list each category.
7. Who information is shared with
- the website host, currently Vercel, which provides hosting and security
- email infrastructure used to receive messages sent to the contact address
- professional advisers or a regulator if that is necessary to meet a legal duty
Some of those organisations use servers outside the United Kingdom, including the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on the UK adequacy arrangements or standard contractual clauses used by the provider.
8. How long information is kept
- ordinary correspondence — usually up to two years after the last message, unless a longer period is needed
- server logs — according to the host’s default retention, typically a short period measured in days or weeks
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to:
- see the personal information held about you
- have inaccurate information corrected
- have information erased in certain cases
- restrict or object to certain uses
- receive information you provided in a portable form
- withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing
Send the request to info@michaelparkerbooks.com. You should receive a response within one month. There is usually no fee.
10. Children
The site is intended for adult readers of historical and contemporary thrillers.
11. Complaints
Please write first so the issue can be put right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office:

If the way information is used changes in a meaningful way, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
